Need a straightforward way to backup your SQL data to Dropbox?<\/strong> By combining SQL Backup Master<\/strong> with the cloud storage capabilities of Dropbox<\/strong>, you can easily automate backups and protect your databases. Follow the steps below to set it up quickly and securely.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

STEP 1 – CREATE AND SET UP YOUR DROPBOX ACCOUNT<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

On the homepage of Dropbox.com<\/strong>, select the Sign Up<\/strong> tab from the banner at the top of the website. Enter your credentials, click Create an Account<\/strong>, then choose the Dropbox plan that best fits your storage and budget needs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dropbox will ask a few questions to personalize your experience, then take you to the Download page. Select Download Dropbox<\/strong> to begin the application\u2019s installation process.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

STEP 2 – CONNECT TO SQL SERVER<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Open SQL Backup Master<\/strong> and click on Backups<\/strong> in the navigation center, then click the New Backup<\/strong> button. The Database Backup Editor<\/strong> window will appear. Within this window, select the Choose SQL Server<\/strong> tab, which will open the Connect to SQL Server<\/strong> window.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the field labeled Server Name<\/strong>, select or enter the name of the SQL Server<\/strong> instance you are connecting to. Common examples include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  • (local)\\SQLExpress<\/em><\/strong> \u2013 Specifies the default SQL Express named instance on the local computer.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n
      \n
    • (local)<\/em><\/strong> \u2013 Specifies the local SQL Server installation without an instance name.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n
        \n
      • Server1\\SQLExpress<\/em><\/strong> \u2013 Specifies the default SQL Express named instance on a remote computer named \u201cServer1.\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

        • Server1<\/em><\/strong> \u2013 Specifies an unnamed SQL Server instance on a remote computer named \u201cServer1.\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

          TIP<\/strong>: Another way to locate local and remote SQL Server instances is by using the drop-down arrow in the Server Name<\/strong> field.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

          Click the Test SQL Connection<\/strong> button to confirm your connection, then hit OK<\/strong>. Click the Save<\/strong> button in the bottom-left of the window.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

          A window labeled Windows user account configuration notice<\/strong> will appear. Click Yes<\/strong> to proceed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

          Check the box marked Run Backup with a Specific Windows Account<\/strong> and then enter your authentication credentials (you should generally only need to enter this information once per backup).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

          STEP 3 – SELECT DESIRED DATABASES TO BACK UP<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

          After connecting to a SQL Server instance, the Database Backup Editor<\/strong> window will list available databases in the left-most column, labeled Source<\/strong>. Select the databases you want to back up as part of this job.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

          TIP<\/strong>: You can also check the box labeled Back up all Non-System Databases<\/strong>, enabling the automatic backup of all new databases created on the target SQL server in the future.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

          STEP 4: ADD A DROPBOX BACKUP DESTINATION<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

          Select the Add<\/strong> button under the window header labeled Destinations<\/strong>. This will bring up a window displaying all possible backup destinations for your SQL database:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

          Double-click the selection box labeled Dropbox<\/strong> (or click once, then press the Select<\/strong> button) to choose Dropbox as your backup destination.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

          The Dropbox Destination Settings<\/strong> window will appear. This is where you will authorize a connection to Dropbox.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

          Press the Authorize Now<\/strong> button and then input your account information on the Dropbox login page. Signing in through the browser will bring up this window:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

          Click Allow<\/strong>, then you will be redirected to the SQL Backup Master App Verification<\/strong> page, where an authorization code will be displayed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

          Press the Copy<\/strong> button to copy this authorization code to your clipboard. Back in SQL Backup Master, you will be prompted to paste the authorization code into the Authorization Code<\/strong> window.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

          Once you\u2019ve pasted in the code, click OK<\/strong> to complete the authorization. Use the Test<\/strong> button in the bottom-left corner of the Dropbox Destination Settings<\/strong> window to confirm a successful connection, then select OK<\/strong>. Finally, click OK<\/strong> in the main window to continue.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

          Back at the bottom-right corner of the Database Backup Editor<\/strong> window, click on the Save<\/strong> icon to finalize your Dropbox backup destination.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

          STEP 5 – RUN THE BACKUP JOB<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

          Return to the main window in SQL Backup Master, select your newly created backup job, and hit Back up now<\/strong> to begin backing up your databases to Dropbox. If the backup job does not complete successfully, consult the log file for more details on any errors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

          If the backup job doesn\u2019t complete successfully, review the application log file for error details or additional troubleshooting information.<\/p>\n\n\n

          That\u2019s it!<\/strong> You are now backing up your SQL database to Dropbox. By automating backups with SQL Backup Master<\/strong>, you\u2019ll have peace of mind knowing your critical data is protected offsite and readily available for recovery.<\/p>\n
