Exploring backups

SQL Backup Master includes a Database Backup Recovery Explorer tool that allows you to browse the files created by database backup jobs.

To access this tool, click the Recovery toolbar button on the Backup and Restore tab of the main window.

Getting Started

To get started with the Database Backup Recovery Explorer, you'll first need to select the database backup job and destination that you want to explore.

The Backup drop-down box contains a listing of all the database backup jobs you've defined within SQL Backup Master.

Once a job is selected, you can then select an entry from the Destination drop-down box. These entries correlate to the backup destinations you've defined for the selected job.

After a job and destination are selected, SQL Backup Master will connect to the backup destination and retrieve a listing of backup files, folders, etc.

Database Backup File Listing

Once the database backup file listing appears, you can use the Action button (which appears next to each database file) in order to:

Restore - Initiates the database recovery process for the specified backup file.

Download - Downloads the backup file to the host machine.

Delete - Removes the database backup file.

If you'd like to limit the number of database backup files shown, use the start and/or end date fields in the toolbar. You can also use the Search toolbar button to find a specific entry via text match.

There's also a Cleanup toolbar button that allows you to delete all database backup files currently shown on-screen.

Navigating Backup Folders

In some cases, folders may also appear along in the database backup file listing. For example, this will be the case if you've chosen to store database backups in their own subfolders.

When folders appear, you can double-click them to navigate into them and list any backup files they contain.
