SQL Backup Master Requirements

Supported Operating Systems

SQL Backup Master can be installed on either Windows client or server operating systems, including:

  • Windows Server 2025, 2022, 2019, 2016, 2012, or 2008 R2 (SP1)
  • Windows 11, 10, 8, 7, or Vista

Supported Database Platforms

SQL Backup Master is designed to support the following database platforms:

  • SQL Server 2025, 2022, 2019, 2017, 2016, 2014, 2012, 2008, and 2005

All editions of SQL Server are supported, including Enterprise, Standard, Express, etc.

Where to Install SQL Backup Master

SQL Backup Master is designed to be installed directly onto the computer that hosts the SQL Server instance(s) you wish to back up.

However, remote backup scenarios of SQL Server instances on a LAN (local area network) are also possible with a bit of configuration.

Background Operation

SQL Backup Master installs and operates as a Windows system service. When launched, the end user (client) interface communicates with the system service to provide operational control.

You don't need to be logged into the host computer in order for scheduled backup jobs to operate, nor does the client interface need to remain running.

Microsoft .NET Framework

SQL Backup Master requires the Microsoft .NET Framework version 4.5.1 or later.

If this requirement isn't met prior to installation, the installer will offer to download and install it on your behalf.
